Job Summary:

Develops and implements infection prevention and control programs. Identifies infection control problems, disease outbreaks, exposure, epidemics, and pandemics and escalates findings. Analyzes and evaluates data on infection prevention and control programs to identify areas of improvement. Designs and delivers program-wide infection prevention and control educational programs. Reviews in reviewing policies and procedures related to occupational health.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in infection prevention, clinical quality management, or a directly related field
  • Masters degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, Microbiology, or related field AND minimum five (5) years of health care/professional experience INCLUDING minimum two (2) years of experience in patient management, occupational health, clinical rounds, laboratory, public health, or a directly related field OR Bachelors degree in Nursing, Public Health, Microbiology, or related field AND minimum seven (7) years of health care/professional experience INCLUDING minimum four (4) years of experience in patient management, occupational health, clinical rounds, laboratory, public health, or a directly related field OR Registered Nurse (RN) License (without a Bachelors degree) AND minimum nine (9) years of health care/professional experience INCLUDING minimum six (6) years of experience in patient management, occupational health, clinical rounds, laboratory, public health, or a directly related field OR Minimum ten (10) years of experience in patient management, occupational health, clinical rounds, laboratory, public health, or a directly related field.
  • Infection Control Certificate within 24 months of hire

 

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control
  • Registered Nurse License in the state where care is provided

 

Pay Rate: $153,000- $197,890 Annual Base Salary

Infection Preventionist – City of Hope, Duarte, CA

Full-time, Days

Position Summary

Infection Preventionists are responsible for identifying healthcare-associated infection risks to patients and personnel through surveillance, observation and assessment.  Incumbents specialize in developing, implementing, monitoring and reporting infection risk-reduction strategies through collaboration with all levels of medical center personnel.  Infection Control Practitioners research and develop infection control policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, nationally-recognized infection control guidelines, and recognized best practices. 

Infection Preventionists coordinate initial and on-going department-specific and facility-wide educational programs related to infection prevention and control. The Infection Preventionist reports state and federally mandated healthcare associated infections (HAI)  Infection Preventionists plan and coordinate programs to evaluate and monitor sterile and aseptic techniques, cleaning procedures, and sterilization processes employed by the medical center.  Incumbents collaborate with and make recommendations to department leadership to reduce or eliminate potential infection hazards and to initiate corrective action as indicated through infection surveillance and monitoring programs. 

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or commensurate degree in a healthcare-related field or public health.  Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements
  • Greater than 2 years infection prevention experience in an acute care facility, or must be CIC certified if having less than 2 years of experience 
  • CIC required or must pass the CIC exam within 6 months of hire
  • For Associate Level Infection Preventionist – No experience required, no CIC required
  • For Senior Level Infection Preventionist – 5+ years experience in Infection Control and Prevention, CIC required

Senior Manager Infection Prevention – Providence Mission Hospital, Mission Viejo, CA

Full-time, Days

The Senior Manager of Infection Prevention is the subject matter expert in the epidemiology and natural history of infectious processes and pathogens, recognition of clusters and risk factors for infection, and methods for breaking the chain of infection. Participates or facilitates in strategic planning activities related to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Infection Prevention program to support Patient Safety, Quality Improvement, and Outcomes management. Designs, facilitates and leads multidisciplinary team projects across the continuum of care and is recognized as an expert in Infection Prevention with a history of successful outcomes. Fully integrates performance improvement methods into the Infection Prevention program in order to achieve improvement in Safety, Quality and Effectiveness of patient care. All senior managers are accountable for implementation of and compliance with policies, practices, and processes of the infection prevention program at the facility, region, division and system level. In collaboration with the IP leadership, IP medical director, and IP peers, all IPs will follow all current local, state, and federal guidelines, standards, and regulations.

Ambulatory Infection Preventionist II – Keck Medicine of USC Hospital, Los Angeles CA

The Infection Preventionist II coordinates the organization-wide Infection Prevention Program, including surveillance and prevention activities, data collection, analysis and trending, and education of staff, and serves as a resource/consultant for all departments and services regarding Infection Prevention issues. The Infection Preventionist II independently performs surveillance for healthcare-acquired infections, environmental rounds, and survey readiness activities. The Infection Preventionist II will be the subject matter expert (SME) for reported healthcare-associated infections of CLABSI, CAUTI, and SSI. In addition, this position will support competency and training needs for infection prevention staff.

Required Qualifications:

  • Req Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing public health, or related healthcare related field with current CIC certification. If no CIC certification upon hire, must obtain within 1 year from hire. OR
  • Req MPH Masters in Public health with current CIC certification with current CIC certification. If no CIC certification upon hire, must obtain within 1 year from hire. OR
  • Req PhD, DNP, or other doctorate. If no CIC certification upon hire, must obtain within 1 year from hire.
  • Req 5-10 years Experience in Infection prevention in acute care setting.
  • Req Working knowledge of patient care practices, microbiology, asepsis , disinfection and sterilization practices, adult education principles, infectious disease , disease transmission, surveillance techniques, performance measurement and improvement principles, licensing standards and regulations.
  • Req Computer skills, applied knowledge of applied biostatistics, written and graphical presentation skills

  • Req Certified in Infection Control – CIC (CBIC) With Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing public health, or related healthcare related field, current CIC certification is required. If no CIC certification upon hire, must obtain within 1 year from hire OR
  • Req Certified in Infection Control – CIC (CBIC) With MPH Masters in Public health, current CIC certification is required. If no CIC certification upon hire, must obtain within 1 year from hire OR
  • Req Certified in Infection Control – CIC (CBIC) With PhD, DNP, or other doctorate, current CIC certification is required. If no CIC certification upon hire, must obtain within 1 year from hire.
  • Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

Pay Range: $110,240 – $181,896 Annual Base Salary Range
